Guidance Update
Classroom
guidance lessons are presented to all students at W.B Simpson Elementary
School. Students in 4th and 5th grade receive guidance lessons during their
Specials classes, as it is called "Lifeskills Class". Students in First
through third grade receive their lessons during a 30 minute time slot set
up with each class for me to come in and teach a lesson to the class for 30
minutes. Please feel free to check this link for monthly updates on what we
are covering during classroom guidance lessons.
In 4th & 5th
grade students are just wrapping up a 8 lesson series on Study Skills and
ways to be a successful Simpson student. Prior to that students reviewing
for 2 weeks our school wide conflict resolution program "Kelso's Choices"
and discussed ways to handle both big and small problems that arise at
school and at home.
In 1st - 3rd
grade students in September reviewed our school wide conflict resolution
program during their classroom guidance lesson, and we discussed how we
handle problems here at Simpson both big and small and ways for them to
access help from myself as their counselor as well as any "trusted adult".
Moving into
October students in all grades have been participating in a lesson on Drugs
& Alcohol and the importance of saying No to Drugs. At all grade levels we
discuss what a drug is by definition, and the importance of saying No to ALL
harmful drugs, and the importance of taking helpful drugs such as medicines
and vitamins with a trusted adult.
***All lessons
taught in the classroom are derived from the American School Counselor's
Association. The CR elementary counselors then have created a standard plan
for each grade level in our buildings to ensure consistency and continuity
among all of the CR elementary schools when it comes to the content and
standards that our students are being taught.***
Coming up In November.............
