Counselor's Corner

Counselor Services:  Delivery of the approved curriculum in accordance with the Caesar Rodney School District, Delaware Department of Education, and the American School Counselors Association. Instruction presented to all students is derived from the 3 domains defined by the ASCA; Personal/Social Development, Academic Development, & Career Development. Students at W.B Simpson received lessons on a monthly or weekly basis depending on the grade level. This allows me to access ALL of our students and teach various skills and cover various topics from these three areas.

Ä      Individual & Group Counseling: to provide opportunities for students to enhance self-esteem, resolve conflicts, and properly handle their emotions.

Ä      Counseling: Counseling and support in times of student and/or staff crisis.

Ä      Consultation: with staff and parents on an open and ongoing basis to provide for the emotional and social health of all students at W. B. Simpson.

How do you access services?

Ä  Students may self-refer by use of a student self-referral form or by requesting to see the counselor.

Ä  Teacher may refer a student at anytime.

Ä   Parents may refer their children either in person, by requesting the service from their child's teacher, or by a phone call to the counselor.

Here at W.B Simpson we use a school wide conflict resolution program called Kelso's Choices. Kelso's Choices help teach our students how to solve problems, how to sort out the difference between big and small problems and what to do to handle small problems with their peers and what to do when handling big problems that are dangerous and frightening, such a bullying situations, threats, fighting or any other problem that leaves them feeling unsafe.  Ask your child about a resident frog Kelso here at W.B Simpson, and how he helps teach all of our student how to be a super problem solver.
